Planning for Funerals and Memorial Services

Bereavement and coping when loss is never easy, and as Church and ministry team we want to support you in any way we can. It is critical that you have the support of a Funeral Director in the event of the death of a loved one, and the Funeral Director will take on the practical liaison regarding funeral services, burials or cremations.

Planning for Funeral Services and Committals

At Christ Church we have two clergy persons who can take services. These can be:

  • Funeral Service at Christ Church Southwark and separate committal at the graveside.

  • Funeral Service in a Chapel at a graveyard followed by committal or cremation.

It is usual to meet with the Clergy person who is leading the service, who will work with you and the Funeral Director to ensure the service reflects what you want or need.

The fees for funerals are set by the Church of England which can be found here.

Planning for Memorials or Commemorations

Memorials and Commemorations are extremely important moments to mark and remember the passing of friends, family and loved ones.

We at Christ Church want to support family members and organisations with Memorial and Commemoration Services when needed.

In all these instances, please do get in contact with our Church Office and a meeting will be organised for you to meet with a clergy person to explore your needs for such a service.

As a Church of England Church we have flexibility around forms of service, with adjusting liturgies to reflect your needs.

There will either be a fee for the Service, or a collection in the service for the work of the Church.
