Want you or your child to be confirmed?

What is confirmation?

In the Church of England Confirmation is a sacrament moment when an individual is able to make the decision for themselves to commit to being a follower of Jesus Christ. As a Parish we consider it critical that the person knows what they are doing. We have therefore stipulated that if the candidate is a child, that they must be 12 years of age, or have their birthday of 12 years during the confirmation classes.

With Confirmation, a Diocesan Bishop will be involved to receive the promises the individual must make before receiving the blessing of the Holy Spirit in prayer and anointing with oil, as part of the process of becoming a committed disciple and follower of Jesus. The candidate will therefore need to complete the confirmation classes at Christ Church and then attend a Diocesan Confirmation service led by the Bishop of Woolwich or the Bishop of Southwark, or another Assistant Bishop of the Diocese.

What is the process?

  1. If you live in the parish, on the electoral roll of the parish, or regularly attend services of the parish, then please then download and complete the confirmation application form whether you are doing this for yourself as an adult or as a parent of a child over 12 years of age.

  2. Please either send in the form or email a scanned completed copy to: Church Administrator, 27 Blackfriars Road, London SE1 8NY or email: admin@christchurchsouthwark.org.uk

  3. Please do request to make an appointment with clergy person from the parish.

  4. You or your child will then need to complete a conformation preparation class and then with the clergy person agree the date and service to attend in a parish Church in the Diocese of Southwark.
