Want you or you child to get baptised?

Baptism is one of the key initiations into the Christian faith. There are different ways of seeing baptism, and the difference between thanksgiving, baptism and confirmation. Please download this guidance document to help explore what you want to do as parents here.

Child baptism

Parents are welcome to request consideration for the baptism of their children if they live in the parish or regularly attend services at Christ Church Southwark. Please follow the process below, and note that we do expect parents and if they child is older, to attend a baptism preparation session.

  1. Please download and complete in full and legibly, the baptism request form here. Either send it into the Church Administrator, Christ Church Southwark, 27 Blackfriars Road, London SE1 8NY or email a scanned copy to: admin@christchurchsouthwark.org.uk

  2. Make an appointment to meet with one of the clergy which can be after a Sunday morning service or other time.

  3. Usually baptisms occur in our Sunday Morning Services, but can be arranged at other times if necessary. There will be a small fee for the cost of certificates.

Thanks giving Service for the Birth of a Child

If after careful reflection and discussion with one of the Christ Church Clergy, parents still wish to proceed with a thanks giving service rather than a baptism service, then this will be considered. This will still require planning, and there will still need to be one to two preparation meetings concerning spiritual formation of the child. Please do fully read and contemplate the guidance above for yourselves as parents.

Adult Baptism

It is usual practice in the Church of England for a believers baptism to be associated with Baptism and Confirmation together. If a candidate is interested in this, then please see the confirmation section under the Parish tab above.
